DOES SHOE SHOPPING FOR YOUR BABY/TODDLER OVERWHELM YOU? NOT SURE WHAT TO LOOK FOR?

No need to scroll endless options! Check out this 10 page shoe guide curated by pediatric physical therapist Dr. Brita DeStefano of Progress Through Play.

DR. BRITA’S SHOE BUYING TIPS

#1. Choose a flexible sole

Stiff shoes are a thing of the past. You want a nice flexible sole with good traction

for your toddler.

#2. Velcro or Laces

You want the shoes to fit snugly so they aren't floppy or loose. Velcro allows for

you to get a just right fit.

#3. Get Sized

Toddler feet grow quickly so finding the right fit can be tricky. When possible,

take your child to the store to be sized. You want a firm heel cup to fit snugly in

the back with a roomy toe box that allows the toes to spread out and wiggle.

#4. When possible, buy new

Secondhand shoes will have a wear pattern and may have molded to the previous

child’s foot.

#5. Barefoot is best

If your little is just learning to walk, barefoot is always best. If you just need

warmth, try fleece booties with grips (like these)

*I did not include specific links for snow boots on this guide but I recommend Kamik, Sorel, Columbia, Stonz, Merrell or Bog boots for snow

Disclaimer: This guide is geared towards children with a typically developing foot. If your

child has pronation or toe walks, consult with your pediatric physical therapist for shoe

recommendations.
