Crawling Patterns
As parents, there are so many exciting milestones we look forward to with our babies!
Did you know, babies can communicate through the way they move? If they choose a specific movement pattern that is considered ‘atypical’ we have to ask ourselves - What is the road block preventing them from moving in other ways? What is this choice of movement telling me about how their body is feeling and functioning?
Atypical crawling patterns may include:
Bottom scooting
Hitch crawling with one leg up instead of both knees on the floor
Prolonged belly crawling (longer than 2-3 months)
Skipping crawling all together
In my practice I want movement to feel good for babies and for them to be able to play and explore without any discomfort or restrictions in their bodies. If you’re curious about your child’s atypical crawling, consider consulting a pediatric PT who can help you gain some insight into your child’s development.
